Symphony Chamber Ensembles

We’re looking for chamber ensembles to represent GTCYS through performances both within our organization and throughout the community. There is no cost to participate, and ensembles will receive complimentary professional coaching and performance opportunities.

To support students in creating groups, GTCYS will share a list of all interested students. From there, students will reach out to others and form chamber ensembles.

Already have a group? Have a designated spokesperson from your ensemble fill out our registration form, and we’ll be in touch! To participate, all members of the ensemble must be enrolled in Symphony.

Ensembles

We will support the following standard chamber ensembles:

• String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello
• Woodwind Quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn
• Brass Quintet: 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba

What GTCYS Provides

Chamber ensembles accepted into the program receive:

• Complimentary professional coaching with members of the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, or other professional musicians.
• Assistance with repertoire selection
• Performance opportunities throughout the season

We encourage ensembles to prepare a variety of repertoire, including standard chamber literature and accessible selections such as pop and film music that are well-suited for community performances. GTCYS can provide repertoire as needed!

Student Expectations

Students will form their own chamber ensembles. To participate, all members of the ensemble must be enrolled in Symphony. Once accepted, your ensemble should:

• Rehearse independently 4–6 times per semester outside of GTCYS
• Commit to performing at 1–2 community events during the season
• Attend all coaching sessions, which take place 5:30–6:30pm before your orchestra rehearsal on:
  • November 16
  • December 7
  • January 25
  • March 1
• Submit a 2–3 minute video by October 30 demonstrating the ensemble’s readiness for public performances

Getting Started

1. Complete the interest form below by Friday, August 21
2. You’ll receive a list of Symphony musicians interested in chamber music. Use the list to reach out and create your own chamber groups.
3. Once your ensemble has formed, one spokesperson for your group should fill out the Chamber Ensemble Registration Form by Friday, October 9.
   • We encourage ensembles to begin rehearsing as soon as possible.
4. Record and submit a 2–3 minute performance video by Friday, October 30
   • This helps us determine if your ensemble is ready to perform at GTCYS events. If your ensemble is accepted, we’ll contact you with coaching details and upcoming performance opportunities.
