The First Week of Chamber Music

Over 50 GTCYS musicians had their first chamber music rehearsal this past week! Students met in small groups to work on developing chamber music techniques under the guidance of a professional musician.

The incredible lineup of coaches includes Fei Xie (Principal bassoon, Minnesota Orchestra), Ellen Dinwiddie Smith (retired horn, Minnesota Orchestra), Greg Milliren (flutist, Minnesota Orchestra), and Patty Ryan (former cellist of the Artaria String Quartet).

“We’re excited that these student musicians are learning the magic of small ensemble playing, including listening, collaborating, leading, and creating amazing music together,” said Dan Mollick, who helps coordinate the Chamber Music program. “We can’t wait to hear them perform later this season!”
