Register for the 2026-2027 Concerto Competition!
Dear GTCYS Students and Families,
We are excited for GTCYS’ 2026–27 Concerto Competition! All current GTCYS students are invited (but not required) to participate.
Competition details:
GTCYS’ Concerto Competition is an annual opportunity for any current GTCYS musician to showcase their individual talents. Contestants memorize a concerto movement and audition with a collaborative pianist for the preliminary round. Selected finalists perform in a free public recital with a collaborative pianist. One or two winners will perform as featured soloists with GTCYS’ Symphony at the Orchestrating Opportunities benefit at Orchestra Hall on Wednesday, December 16, 2026 or Sunday, February 28, 2027.
This is a great opportunity to grow as a musician. If you audition, you will gain experience in preparing a solo work, and performing it, and receiving comments from the judges, who are professional musicians. The competition is open to all GTCYS students except previous winners, so consider applying!
Important dates:
- Registration deadline: Tuesday, September 29 at 11:59pm. The competition fee is $80. Need-based assistance is available.
- Preliminary Round Auditions: Sunday October 11, 11am – 5pm, Ultan Recital Hall, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Closed to the public.
- Finals Recital: Sunday, November 1, 3pm, Sundin Hall at Hamline University, St. Paul. Free and open to the public.
- Performance with Symphony: Wednesday, December 16, 2026 or Sunday, February 28, 2027.
We can’t wait to hear your artistry and musicianship shine!
