Letter from Zane (10/22)
Hello Camerata Vivace!
“Abstract Composition”, George Morison, 1950
Fall Seating Auditions are done! Congratulations on all of your hard work throughout this process; your drive and preparation is what matters most and everyone has improved since the start of the season, thank you!
You will find the new strings seating assignment in this email, along with your GTCYS 10, reminders about our MN Orch outing with Camerata Con Brio, and a heads up for Woodwind Day this Saturday!
Also, we recorded Celebrazione Sinfonia! tonight in rehearsal. If you wanted to hear how it’s going, here’s a link to listen (please forgive the page turn sounds from my score)!
Here is a link to the new seating chart for strings:
GTCYS 10:
This week I’d love for you to know only prepare your GTCYS 10 each day, but, I’d also like you to listen to this incredible example of mariachi. This is a high school group from Stockton, CA; young people your age! String players in particular, watch their bows near the beginning of the song’s introduction and see the precision synchronization!
As for practice, please continue to review Polar Express, Norwegian Dances, and Snow Chase, as we will not have much rehearsal time for them leading up to Fall Festival.
Within Celebrazione and Angel City, the goal for everyone: INTONATION AWARENESS
Strings: Celebrazione from 1 – 30 needs a bit more confidence in general, please work through this section with a tuner!
Winds: Similarly, more work on intonation in Celebrazione from 9 – 22 would go a long way, that way we can grow in dynamics even more dramatically while keeping the balance strong!
Brass: Our forte notes in general can get a little “blatty”, please use a tuner and practice coming in at entrances with this to check for intonation. Also, check your overall tone and phrasing near the end of Celebrazione.
All players: Angel City: please listen to the mariachi video linked earlier in this weekly update before practicing this work. Emphasize the stopping of notes and clear articulations across the ensemble. This is your inspiration for your work this week!
MN Orch Outing:
We are excited to join together on our group excursion to Minnesota Orchestra playing the Norwegian Dances in early November. If you registered, an email should have been sent out recently with ticket information!
Woodwind Day THIS Saturday, 10/24!
It’s the best time of the year: Woodwind Day! I can’t wait to see some of you as we dive into all things woodwind. Have so much fun, and let’s take a Camerata Vivace photo when we get there!
Thank you for all your hard work!
Best wishes,
Kaiser
