Letter from Tamara (10/29)
Great focus, and grit at our rehearsal this week. We made a huge leap forward towards being Orchestra Hall ready. We also spent some time working on our December concert pieces, which is a mix of movie music and Holiday tunes.
This week please revisit our Concertino East playlist which has been updated to include our newest pieces. It is also prudent to listen to our Fall Festival pieces with the goal of deepening your aural image of our pieces. This will help you notice the important musical details we need to layer on (exaggerated dynamics & crisp articulations) and help you to listen across the ensemble to stay together.
Please practice the Beethoven at 72= half note (144 to the quarter note). Pay special attention to counting the dotted quarter note rhythms between B-D; strings must use more bow on the 16th notes at C and winds can focus on accenting each note change.
Strings and Bassoons: There is one small edit to make to Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture, please see the photo above.
In order to smooth out the harmonic sequence that leads to the big cut from D to 276, we are making a small adjustment to the final pitches:
Bassoon: please change your final half note to a B natural.
Violins: Please omit your last 8th note.
Violas/Cellos: Please change the last two 8th notes. A natural will change to D natural; Final D will change to B natural.
Please commit to practicing your GTCYS music 10-20 minutes daily before Fall Festival. It will take each individual musician to play with confidence and ownership of their own parts to have a successful performance. We do not perfection, we will strive for progress from week to week.
Have a great weekend!
