Letter from Ms. Mary (9/28)
Hey Philharmonia East,
Thanks for your hard work at our retreat and at our treat night rehearsal this week. It was fun to join with Sinfonia for our first treat night of the year.
I hope that you are able to hear the weekly progress that we are making. Thank you for your individual practice at home, as this is what adds so much to our Tuesday evening rehearsals.
A reminder that everyone needs to bring a stand to every rehearsal. Please make sure to have this on your checklist of things to bring each Tuesday evening. Remember to label your stand, as many of them are quite similar. Thank you in advance for doing this.
Next week is our first sectional of the year. If you are new to GTCYS, the first portion of the rehearsal will be different than usual. We will split into two sections-upper and lower strings. We will work on very specific passages and techniques that relate to your instrument. For the last 30 minutes of our rehearsal, we will play together. It is always so amazing to hear how much improvement is made during our sectional rehearsals.
So, in preparation for our rehearsal next week, I would ask that each student practice the following at home:
- Clog Dance-measures 31-53
- Caprice-letter C to E
Question of the week: What piece are we working on that has a small section in the key of C Major? There will be prizes for students who send their answers to mary@gtcys.org.
Enjoy the photos from our retreat this past weekend.
Have a great week. I look forward to our sectional rehearsal next week!
Work hard, play hard.
