Letter from Ms. Mary (9/28)
Hey Philharmonia West,
Super fun rehearsal and treat night this week! A special thank you to those who brought treats and the parents who organized and helped our evening run so smoothly.
Since we have been talking about musical memories and first performances, I thought I would share mine from long, long ago!
Nice progress is being made each week. I hope that you were able to hear the improvement you are all making with sight reading new pieces. We will continue to work on our scales and technical scales, but our main focus will be working on our Fall Festival pieces.
Our next rehearsal will be sectionals. For the first portion of our time together, we will split into upper strings and lower strings and work on some very particular passages. There will be a teacher, or coach, who will work with each section. When we come together at the end of our rehearsal, you will be amazed at the amount of progress that has been made.
There are two very particular passages I would like you to practice before next Monday. They are:
Raspberry Ramble
- Violins: Letter G to H and letter I to the end
- Violas: Letter E to F and letter I to the end
- Cellos and Bass: Letter E to F and letter F to G
Play each of these passages 5 times before next Monday
Prelude from Belvedere Suite
- All sections: measure 17-33
- Play this section 3 times before next Monday
Question of the week:
Which of our pieces has an ABA form? Think about what the different sections are of our pieces. You have been so great about answering these questions. Send those replies to mary@gtcys.org.
This week, we discovered there were some very unusual hidden talents with Philharmonia students. We will share more of these each week. I can’t wait to see what other talents are within Philharmonia!
Have a great week.
Work hard, play hard.
