Letter from Ms. Mary (9/22)

Hey Philharmonia East,

Nice work this week in our second rehearsal.  We were able to dig a little deeper with technique and repertoire, as well as play through another one of our pieces.  There are some exciting things coming up ahead!

Retreat! Our retreat is this Saturday, September 26, from 9:00am-1:00pm.  We will be meeting at the Maplewood YMCA.  Come well rested, as our time together will be packed with playing, games, food, mixers and more playing! A reminder that you need to bring everything that you bring to a regular rehearsal, as well as your own lunch.

Your checklist for Saturday morning is:

  • Instrument
  • Stand
  • Music
  • Pencil
  • Accessories
  • Lunch

Please arrive by 8:45am so that we can start promptly at 9:00.

At our retreat, we will continue to focus on the scales that are in our repertoire, C Major and G Major.  The pieces that we will focus on are Rondeau, Chaconne and Caprice.  Please play through these at least once before our retreat on Saturday.  Take note (pardon the pun) of the key signatures.  Caprice uses two different key signatures.  Mark them if you need to.  We will also take some time to sight read some of the other repertoire in our folders. We will do a lot of playing, but there will be lots of time to meet and play games with your Philharmonia colleagues.

Our next Tuesday rehearsal will be a treat night. This will be an extra special treat night, as we will combine with Sinfonia during our break time.

Can’t wait for our retreat.

Work hard, play hard.
