Letter from Ms. Mary (11/3)
Hey Philharmonia East,
Super fun treat night. Shout out to our students who brought treats, as well as our parent volunteers. These nights would not happen without you. How fun to meet more Sinfonia students. Let’s continue to work on our transitions to and from our rehearsal space.
Lots of hard work was done this week at our rehearsal. Perhaps the biggest thing that we are working on is listening. Our listening skills are essential in our ensemble playing. Big ears are needed in any ensemble. Listening to ourselves is important, but we need to always listen across the room. Do we know who has the melody? Can we hear the melody?
This week, we were able to play through more of the repertoire for our holiday concert. Before next week, I would like you to focus on a very specific passage in Russian Dance. Please play from letter D to E as many times as possible. We drilled this at our rehearsal on Tuesday. Each section has a tricky rhythm and finger pattern part to it. You can play this on the string or spiccato. Play it slowly. Play it for someone at home. Play it in the kitchen. Just keep playing it!
The middle section of Caprice was sounding terrific last night! The finger patterns in C Major are sounding more comfortable. Before next week, play your C Major scale with any variations you choose. After that, play through the middle section of Caprice ( letter C-E).
Next week is our final rehearsal before Fall Festival. We will practice our stage entrances, as well as run through our repertoire.
Questions of the week:
- What is our call time for Fall Festival?
- What is your favorite season and why?
Have a great week! Can’t wait for our rehearsal next week!
Work hard, play hard.
