Letter from Ms. Mary (10/6)

Hey Philharmonia East!

Nice job at sectionals this week.  It was so nice to have “Cello Dude”, aka Greg Byers join us in our rehearsal.  We are continuing to work towards our first performance, Fall Festival at Orchestra Hall in November!

We are diving deep with very specific details in our pieces.  This week we talked about the 5-syllable word that means how you play the note.  That is, are we playing notes staccato, legato, or pizzicato? Please send me your answer to that 5-syllable word, the word that can make all of the difference in orchestra playing! (mary@gtcys.org)

Next week, we will continue to focus on the keys (scales) that our pieces are in.  Those keys are C Major, G Major, and D Major.  Remember that your finger patterns have to change when our key signatures change.  F sharp is not the same pitch as F natural!

Listen to Clog Dance this week! Here is a recording that I would encourage you to listen to and follow along in your part!

Before our next rehearsal, please drill the following passages:

Clog Dance: measures 23-31
Caprice: Violins-letter E to the end

First challenge of the year: Can you memorize the following measures?

Violin 1; 4 before D to letter D in Caprice

Violin 2; 3 before D to letter D in Caprice

Viola; the first 4 measures of letter D in Caprice

Cello; the first 4 measures of letter F in Caprice

This challenge is good for two weeks, until October 20th! Go for it!

Have a great week! Work hard, play hard.
