Letter from Mrs. Mary (9/15)

Congratulations, Philharmonia East!

We are off to a great start with our 2026-27 season! This week, we were introduced to the routines and expectations of our rehearsals and played two of our pieces.  We also reviewed some scales and bowing patterns.  Thank you for being such good listeners and trying your best with our new music.  At each rehearsal, we are all learning and improving.  Remember, We Can Do Hard Things!

In your weekly email, I will include a very specific practice passage for you to work on at home.  For this week, I would like you to focus on two sections in Caprice.  These sections are:

  • The beginning to letter A
  • Letter A-B

Remember the key signature (G Major).  Try playing your scales this week with many different rhythmic variations.  The better you are at your scales, the easier your pieces will be.

A reminder that each week, every student needs to bring:

  • Instrument
  • Stand
  • Music
  • Pencil
  • Any Accessories such as rosin, rock stop, shoulder rest

Question of the week: What is the letter name of the first sharp that shows up in our key signature? Send your answers to mary@gtcys.org.

Our retreat is on Saturday, September 26.  There will be more information about this at our next rehearsal.  Have a great week.  Can’t wait for our next rehearsal!
