Letter from Mrs. Hebert (9/14)

Sinfonia West,

Congrats on a great first rehearsal! We are going to have a WONDERFUL year together!

On Monday, we were working on sightreading and just getting the “big picture”. We will be digging into the details at retreat and future rehearsals.

Here are the three pieces we will be focusing on this week. I would encourage you to bring your music to your private teacher if you have one!

  1. Slavonic Legend: Double check your key signature! Strings especially- don’t forget your Bbs! Practice in small sections to ensure you know your notes, rhythms, bowings, and articulation. Master the small section before moving on.
  2. Aboriginal Rituals: We only had time to sightread a small section. Please listen and look through this entire piece. You don’t need to have it totally learned by retreat, but should have a good handle on a lot of it. Strings- you have harmonics in this piece! You can ask your private teacher for help, but I will also talk about them at retreat if you need additional help.
  3. Momentum– Brass players:  this is a difficult key signature! Feel free to mark in sharps in your music or write in fingerings to help you with these new notes. Strings: we will be working on keeping the staccato crisp and using a small amount of bow

Happy practicing! I am excited to see you all at retreat on Sunday!
