Letter from Mrs Hebert (10/19)

Sinfonia West,

Thank you to all of you who voted using the form in last weeks’ email!

Here are our two pieces for Fall Festival

  1. Slavonic Legend
  2. Waltz of the Wicked

Here are your practice goals for this week. We only have 3 REHEARSALS left!

Slavonic Legend:

Practice the entire piece with the metronome: 126: Quarter note

  • Measures 17-20: Remember B naturals!
  • M. 45-61: Know your part with counting the rests Be confident on your entrances after quarter rests
  • M. 63-73: Pizz in tempo! Don’t rush!
  • M. 78-79: If you have 8th notes here, practice them slowly and then get it up to tempo
  • M. 84-92: double-check your notes and rhythms and get it up to tempo
  • 93-end Double check your notes!
  • Work on dynamics throughout!

Waltz of the Wicked:

Work on the entire piece with the metronome!!! 128: Quarter note

  • M. 1-23: 8th notes need to be staccato and crisp. Even though the quarter notes have accents on them, keep them crisp as well! Winds- the quarter notes tend to be a bit too long.
  • Melodic line- whenever you have the melody, make it sing! Save breath and bow for the quarter note.
  • M. 55- 70: Melody with gliss for strings: the gliss needs to be faster! Make sure the top note of your gliss lands right on the beat (practice with the metronome so you can hear where to fix it).
  • Coda- end: Tempo!!! We need to pick up the pace quite a bit. Make sure you know your part well so you can watch for the tempo changes.

We will be in sectionals for rehearsal on Monday! Strings- you will be splitting by section. These are to help you play and develop as a group, not to learn your part so please come prepared so you and your section can get the most out of it! Because we are in sectionals, I won’t have a theme or color.

Happy Practicing!

Mrs. Hebert
