Letter from Mrs. Hebert (10/26)

Sinfonia West,

It was great to sit in and hear the great work you were all doing in sectionals this week!

There were a lot of specific areas that each coach worked on with you. Please apply these to your practicing this week!!

We only have 2 REHEARSALS to go so please spend at least 10 minutes a day on your GTCYS music this week. We need everyone to be prepared.

Here are some general practice goals for you this week. Use these goals along with your guidance from your sectional coach:

Slavonic Legend: 126: Quarter note.

  • Please practice your entire piece with the metronome! Note the sections you like to rush or slow down and stop to practice those sections.
  • Check your dynamics throughout. With such a large orchestra, I would encourage you to play your softer dynamics even softer than you think.
  • Spend one time playing OPPOSITE dynamics (F is P, crescendos are decrescendos etc). This will help you pay better attention to dynamics.
  • Double check your key signatures and accidentals. For the violins, your sectional coaches worked hard on making sure you played F# and C#s in the second half.
  • LISTEN to a recording
  • Play with the recording

Waltz of the Wicked: 128: Quarter note

  • Please practice your entire piece with the metronome! Note the sections you like to rush or slow down and stop to practice those sections.
  • Check your dynamics throughout. With such a large orchestra, I would encourage you to play your softer dynamics even softer than you think.
  • Spend one time playing OPPOSITE dynamics (F is P, crescendos are decrescendos etc). This will help you pay better attention to dynamics.
  • LISTEN to a recording– note anything you should adjust
  • Play with the recording

Oboes- your sectional coach encouraged you to buy a physical tuner for now and future use. This will help you as you continue to learn to tune in rehearsal 🙂

If you have read this far, here is a riddle to answer on this form
