Letter from Kaiser (9/17)

Hello Camerata Vivace!

Still LifeStill Life (1996), by Yayoi Kusama

Thank you for your hard work tonight, especially for our brass players and their work in sectionals!

This Sunday is our Fall Retreat! I can’t wait to dive into this music even more with you and find new things to celebrate and hone in on.

Listening:

  • Angel City is inspired by mariachi and Latin American music. Check out this cool interview with the Mariachi Ensemble at USC.
  • Polar Express: some of you haven’t seen this film! Here is one of the opening scenes to watch. See how many of our themes you can hear in just this little clip!

Practicing:

As we prepare for our retreat, please focus on:

  • Norwegian Dance No. 3 (especially woodwinds at the beginning)
  • Celebrazione Sinfonia! (strings and brass focusing on intonation and more excellence in your performance).

Announcements:

  • Chamber Music is coming to Camerata Vivace! We will have time at retreat to talk about it, but if you are interested, please let me know and you will see more soon!
  • Seating Auditions are also slowly coming up! All woodwind, brass, and string players will have seating auditions to prepare for. Excerpts will be available for your practice soon!

Have a great rest of the week!

Best wishes,

Kaiser
