Letter from Kaiser (9/10)

Hello Camerata Vivace!

Uprooted And Drifting

Uprooted and Drifting – Melodee Strong

What a WONDERFUL first rehearsal with you all! I am over the moon with how much music we made and the bits of growth already coming out of each piece. Thank you for showing up and bringing your best selves to this rehearsal and every one moving forward!

Listening:

Tonight we read through our pieces “Celebrazione Sinfonia!”, “Angel City”, and “Norwegian Dances No. 2 and No. 3”. We have several more pieces in our folder that we did not get to, so please listen to all of our pieces from the links below:

Tonight’s Rehearsal:

Celebrazione Sinfonia!

Angel City

Norwegian Dances

Other pieces in your folder:

The Polar Express

Snow Chase

New England Holiday

Dvorak’s Eighth Symphony, Mvmt 4

Practicing:

Next week we will have a shortened brass specific sectional. Brass players, make sure you focus on the following excerpts to really be ready to go!

All Brass: play through more of Celebrazione Sinfonia!

Trumpets: The beginning of Dvorak 8, Angel City, beginning of New England Holiday

Horn: Dvorak 8 at Rehearsal B, beginning of New England Holiday

Trombone: beginning of New England Holiday

Tuba: New England Holiday, any 16th note passages, and, Norwegian Dances.

Your GTCYS 10 (10 purposeful minutes of practice a day on your GTCYS music) should help prepare you for this experience while solidifying what we worked on in the first rehearsal!

Strings: Norwegian Dance No. 2 at 27 and beyond, Upper strings: New England Holiday

Woodwinds: Exposed melodic lines in the Norwegian Dances, the beginning of Norwegian Dance no. 3

Percussion: timpani solos in Celebrazione Sinfonia! And Dvorak, plus just becoming familiar with the different percussion parts!

Everyone: 43 – 76 of Celebrazione Sinfonia!

Thinking:

One of my favorite things to do is find out what modern classical musicians are doing with their training and careers. One of my favorite new discoveries is Clarice Jensen, a contemporary cello performer and composer/arranger from NYC.  Her piece “A to B” is stunning, ethereal, and deeply emotional despite its repetition. Read about what she’s working on here.

Hidden Quiz Question of the Week: What band has Clarice Jensen been on tour with recently? You can find the answer from her ‘events’ page on her website that I linked just above.

As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. Again, I am SO looking forward to this season!

Best wishes,

Zane Kaiser
