Letter from Emma (11/3)

Hi Sinfonia East!

We are quickly approaching Fall Festival. Thank you for all the work and dedication that you have put into your music thus far. At our last rehearsal, we ran our Fall Festival music after spot checking and sight read some of our winter concert music.

Next week will be our final rehearsal before we perform at Fall Festival. You can expect to spot-check the tricky spots in the music and run through both pieces one or two times.

Before next Tuesday, please use the following checklist to make sure that you are Fall Festival ready…

  • I can play the Tchaikovsky from letter B to the end with a metronome set to 120bpm
  • I can play measures 25 to 61 to the Strommen with a metronome set to 120bpm

If you are not yet able to play these pieces up to tempo, you need to practice. We have the potential to give a phenomenal performance at Fall Festival – let’s support each other’s success by making sure we are practicing individually.

When practicing, choose a 4-16 bar chunk to work on at a time. Set a metronome at 60–70% of the maximum tempo that you are comfortable playing at. Play the chunk 3-4 times correctly, then increase the metronome by 3-5 clicks. Repeat until you reach 120bpm.

If you have extra time, please use it to learn notes/rhythms in our other music.

Violin 1 – We are going to rewrite the super fast scale in the Tchaikovsky that happens 2 measures before O. The rewritten part is attached here – please write this in and practice it!

Cellos – Please use the attached copy of Most Wonderful Time of the Year to write in fingerings. You may use your own fingerings if you’d like, but these are one suggestion.

Let’s work hard and make some beautiful music!
