Letter from Diane (10/26)

Hello Camerata Con Brio,

Although some of you have heard this message a few times now, I want to underline the idea that we talked about at the beginning of tonight’s rehearsal. Changes to seating after auditions can feel hard, but it is helpful to think about the past, present and future!

Leave your audition in the past.

What is done is done. Sometimes auditions go well and sometimes they don’t. Celebrate your victories humbly and give yourself some grace if things didn’t go as well as you’d hoped.

Be content with your present self.

Move forward with the confidence that you belong to an amazing group that values you. The real win is that you are a part of this orchestra in the first place and where you sit does not increase or decrease your contribution to the group.

Believe in your future self.

Every time you go through an audition, it makes you stronger. Regardless of the outcome, you are better at this skill now than you were last week.

Onward!

This week was “Transition Tuesday”. We worked hard on getting tempo changes and transitional moments smooth.  Let’s keep working on that next week.  We have two more rehearsals before our performance at Orchestra Hall!

Here is your GTCYS 10

Hykillä–Waltz

Practice with your metronome!  Woodwindwinds, can you keep the opening tempo steady at mm=110?

Newbold–Illiad

Practice running the piece from beginning to end, anticipating the many transitions in this piece.  Then go back and do some target practice on spots that are still tricky for you.

Christmas at the Movies

Please spend some time practicing this piece. We will likely cut the “Making Christmas” section (measures 105-135) so you do not need to work on that section.  I’ve included a recording of this piece in our playlist.  You can also listen here.

Have a great Halloween and always live your life CON BRIO!
