Christopher Collins, ’90
For GTCYS alum and board member Chris Collins, music has been a constant presence throughout his life. During his time as a violinist in GTCYS, he worked his way up through Junior Philharmonia East, Junior Symphony, Philharmonia, and Symphony—ending with a capstone tour to China and Japan!
Today, Chris lives in Woodbury with his wife (also a GTCYS alum!) and works at US Bank as the Vice President of Digital Assets and Money Movement. After his time at GTCYS, Chris stayed heavily involved in music. He joined a string trio in college, played bass guitar in rock and jazz bands in his 20s, and currently plays semi-professionally in an acoustic cover duo, Anglo & Collins!
Chris’ favorite GTCYS memories come from tour, including unforgettable performances in Beijing and Tokyo, a joint concert with the Hong Kong Youth Symphony, and visits to the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Japanese gardens in historic Kyoto. Reflecting on his time in GTCYS, he shares, “GTCYS helped me grow and develop as a musician because I was immersed and surrounded by people who were really good, and that pushed me to be better. Just as important are the ideas of teamwork, commitment, and accountability… I use these skills every day in my professional life”.
