GTCYS Launch Lessons Application

  • The GTCYS Launch Lessons program specifically supports young Hispanic/Latinx and Black/African American students who have financial need and a strong desire to pursue orchestral music. If you are part of another racial group that is underrepresented in orchestral music and have been invited to apply for Launch Lessons, please select "other" and enter details about your racial background.
  • If your family speaks a language other than English, GTCYS will try to find a translator to help with the next steps for these lessons.

  • This program is limited to students who reside in Ramsey, Washington, or Dakota County.
  • Enter the full name of the school this student currently attends. Please do not enter an abbreviation or acronym.
  • Enter the name of this student's school band or orchestra teacher.
  • Briefly, describe why you want to receive a scholarship for private lessons, and how lessons would make a difference for you.
  • Explain a few of this student's other interests or activities. For example, does this student play other instruments, participate in sports, theater, church, etc.? This information will help their lessons teacher get to know them.
  • Terms of GTCYS Launch Lessons:
    • GTCYS Launch Lessons are for Hispanic/Latinx, Black/African American students in grades 2 – 11 who reside in Ramsey, Washington, or Dakota counties.
    • Beginning to pre-professional level musicians who already play an orchestral instrument (strings, woodwind, brass, or percussion) and have access to an instrument, but aren’t currently taking private lessons can apply.
    • Families must have financial need and can’t afford private lessons otherwise. No documentation required for this program.
    • Families must be willing to commit to the responsibility of weekly private lessons, including transportation, consistent attendance, and regular at-home practice.
    • Up to 10 lessons will be provided through with the goal that students join one of GTCYS’ 11 school-year orchestras in the 2026-27 school year at the conclusion of their lessons.
    • After joining a GTCYS orchestra, support for lessons may to continue based on financial need.
