About the Instructor

Lisi's teaching experience started with private lessons during her high school years to working with studios in Minneapolis (Linden Hills House of Music) and St. Paul (Simply Strings Studios). She has been teaching private lessons at The Villa Studio for 9 years.

Lisi has been playing violin for 31 years and teaches through two different methods. She starts all beginners off on the Suzuki method and is a fan of following through with the method. If interested, she will switch between the Suzuki method and a fiddle book (bluegrass, Irish, etc.) of the student's choice (and her suggestion - this is dependent on ability). In this way the student is benefiting from the technical growth of the Suzuki method while playing some fun tunes from outside the classical genre. Finally, theory and note-reading exercises are woven into the lessons, especially for beginners who have no note-reading experience. Students will learn theory from naming the kinds of notes and the names of the notes to improvisation techniques and utilizing different scales and/or modes in soloing.

Professional Performance Experience: Lisi has been performing professionally throughout the Twin Cities, Midwest and US for the past 16 years and can currently be seen performing with Galactic Cowboy Orchestra and on Mick Sterling Presents shows. She was a two-time member of the MN All-State HS Orchestra and the Macalester College Orchestra.
