About the Instructor

Joshua Ruff is a trumpet player and jazz musician born in Rome, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance from Jacksonville State University, in April 2024. During his time at JSU, Joshua studied with Dr. Christopher Probst, and Dr. Andy Nevala. Joshua also performed with the Down Beat Award–winning Jazz Ensemble 1, the JSU Latin Jazz ensemble, and multiple combos during his degree.

With over 5 years of teaching experience, Joshua has developed his teaching style to be relaxed, supportive, and process-focused. There’s no “one size fits all” approach. He helps students learn how to practice effectively, and efficiently, to understand the music they’re playing. His goal is to make trumpet feel less intimidating and more fun, while building skills that last beyond the lesson room.
