Jasmine Wei-Ting Chang
Jasmine Wei-Ting Chang (張瑋庭) is a native of Taiwan. She began her musical studies on the piano at age 5 and started cello studies at age 8 after being accepted into a music school in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 2005, she won First Prize at the Chairman of City Council Cello Competition in Taiwan and received a full scholarship to Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) in 2008. However, she decided to continue her musical education in the U.S. and moved to California at age 15 to study with Prof. Banghsin Ko from California State University (Fullerton). While there, she was accepted into the Pacific Youth Symphony Orchestra in Orange County and won First Prize at the Musical Arts of Orange County Annual Audition in 2009, as well as the First Prize Winner of the Asian Pacific Cup High School Cello Contest in Taiwan in 2010.
At age 17, she moved to Bloomington, Indiana, to study with Prof. Emilio Colon at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance. She went on to earn her Master’s degree and Artist Diploma in Cello Performance from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in 2018 and 2019, where she was accepted with a full scholarship and was honored as a Henry Mancini Institute Fellow, studying under Prof. Ross Harbaugh from the Bergonzi String Quartet. Currently, Ms. Chang is ABD (All But Dissertation) in her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) program at the University of Minnesota.
Ms. Chang is an assistant music/orchestra teacher, focusing on Cello and Bass for 4th to 8th grade at Yinghua Academy. She also holds a private studio and performs as a member of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, and occasionally substitutes for the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her passion for teaching, Ms. Chang enjoys spending time with her cats, family and friends, researching self-improvement, and fostering the well-being of those around her.
