Summer Brass Camp: Developing and advanced brass ensembles
Director: Jason Tanksley and Erika Izaguirre
Meets: 12:30pm – 2:30pm, July 21-25 with 12:30pm concert on July 25
Cost: $290 tuition; tuition assistance available. Discounted rate of $160 for students who also participate in one of the morning orchestra camps for a total of $565.
Please note: GTCYS’ camps used to require a separate registration fee which is now rolled into tuition for simplicity.
GTCYS’ Summer Brass Camp serves beginning, intermediate, and advanced horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba students ages 10 – 18. This camp provides a unique brass experience designed for students with at least one year of playing experience.
Summer Brass Camp Playing Sample
If you are auditioning for the 2025-26 GTCYS season, your audition video will be used as your playing sample. If not, please prepare a solo using the parameters below:
Solo: Prepare one piece of music that demonstrates your best abilities. Selections can include solos, studies, school music, or other pieces. Your solo selection should not be more than 2 minutes in length. If your solo is longer than 2 minutes, please make appropriate cuts within the music.
Jason Tanksley, Brass Specialist
Tubist Jason Tanksley is a performer and educator based in Fridley, Minnesota, and is currently the Instructor of Tuba at St. Olaf College. In addition to his work in higher education, Tanksley leads an active career as a performer. He has performed with orchestras including The Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Oregon Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Jacksonville Symphony. Erika Izaguirre, Brass Specialist
Trumpeter Dr. Erika Izaguirre leads an active career as a solo performer, teacher, and clinician. She is currently the Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Director of the Jazz Ensemble at Concordia College. She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Eastman School of Music. Currently, Erika is focused on helping young musicians and composers from underrepresented communities by elevating their voices and providing resources. Read More »
