Winter Retreat Details for Philharmonia East

Hello, Philharmonia East students, 

Your winter retreat is coming up on Saturday, January 17, from 8:30am–1:00pm at Roseville Area High School.  

We hope you’re looking forward to it—this retreat helps set your orchestra up for success this semester! You’ll have extended time to dig deep into your music and activities to reconnect with your peers and new orchestra members.  

Plus, we’ve invited musical guest ComMUSICation to jumpstart your special project. Come prepared to work hard and have fun! 

RETREAT INFORMATION 

Saturday, January 17, 2026 

Roseville Area High School 

8:30am–1:00pm  

ATTENDANCE  

The winter retreat is a mandatory element of your GTCYS experience. We would love for all students to attend. If you are unable to attend, please complete an absence form 

Note on attendance flexibility: Our attendance policy will be waived for the time being. Families may decide whether to attend rehearsals and upcoming retreats without absence penalties or eligibility concerns. Please continue to report absences using your orchestra’s absence form. 

SCHEDULE  

  • 8:15am: Arrive and warm up 
  • 8:30am: Retreat begins 
  • 9:15am: Social activity/sectionals 
  • Teambuilding 
  • Snack break 
  • Rhythm Sticks/Body Percussion with Laurie McFaul 
  • 12:00pm: Lunch (remember to bring your own food!) 
  • 12:30pm: Final rehearsal  
  • 1:00pm: Retreat ends. 

WHAT TO BRING 

  • Bagged lunch (no nuts at GTCYS events) 
  • Instrument and accessories 
  • Music folder & pencil 
  • Folding music stand 
  • Cellos and basses: Please remember rock stops! 

WHAT NOT TO BRING 

  • Personal valuables, games, and homework.  
  • Please remember that cell phone use during the retreat is not allowed. 

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING 

Enter through door #3 – the performing arts doors. Look for the green GTCYS signs!
