Letter from Ms. Mary (9/30)

Hey Philharmonia East,

Thank you for your work last night in sectionals. How nice to have mentors and a cello sectional coach spend the evening with us! We continue to make progress in our repertoire, particularly Turbulence.

Last night, we woodshedded some very particular passages in Turbulence.  Before our rehearsal next week, please play through the following measures.  They can be at whatever steady tempo you can best play them at.  They just need to be rhythmically accurate.  These measures are: 22-28, 44-50 and 56 to the end. How long does it take you to play these measures 5 times each?  Woodshedding is not playing something once or twice but rehearsing it repeatedly so that it can be performed flawlessly!

A reminder about what to bring each week to rehearsal…

Each student is responsible for bringing the instrument, music, stand, pencil and accessories to every rehearsal.  We are not rehearsing as best we can when students do not have all of the necessary tools.  Please put a label on your stand, case, music and any other equipment that you bring to rehearsals.  Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Next week, we will continue to work on Turbulence.  We will continue to woodshed those tricky passages.  Here is the listening link for Turbulence.  Follow along with your part.  Count your part!  We talked about how counting is one of the pillars of a great orchestra.  We can all do this!

Have a great week.  We will continue to look for frogs next week!

Work hard, play hard.
