Letter from Ms. Mary (4/13)
Hey Philharmonia West,
Nice rehearsal this week. Thanks to those of you who brought snacks and our parent volunteers for making our treat night possible.
Next week is Bring-Your-Parent-to Rehearsal Night! If your parent plays an instrument and would like to join in on our rehearsal, next Monday is the night! This is not limited to string instruments. However, we will only have string parts. Parents playing non-string parts will need to be able to transpose from our string parts. Let’s fill the room with extra musicians next week!
We are continuing to focus on the following pieces:
- March of the Meistersingers
- An African-American Air
- Turbulence
- Jupiter
Continue to work on memorizing Jupiter. We will be performing this from the aisles, and we will not be able to use music. For this week, see if you can memorize the first half. There is lots of repetition in this, which makes it even easier to memorize. Watch those flats! We can do hard things! We can do hard things! Weather permitting, we will practice this outside!
Audition videos are due on May 19th. Keep working on your scales, solo, and excerpt. A reminder that all students need to submit an audition video to participate in GTCYS next year.
Fun check! If you are looking for a great way to keep up your instrument skills and meet more friends, then summer camp is for you! July 20-24 is the week of camp, and I would love to see you as many of you there as possible.
Continue to make music and share music. I look forward to seeing you next Monday!
