Letter from Ms. Mary (3/17)

Hey Philharmonia East,

Lots of playing and hard work at our rehearsal this week.  We are working towards our two final concerts that we have in the coming weeks.  Our first concert is April 14th at Johanna Shores followed by Spring Festival on May 10th at Orchestra Hall.

The repertoire that we will be playing at our Johanna Shores concert is:

  • Jubilee Fanfare
  • Where the River Shannon Flows
  • Accents
  • March of the Meistersingers
  • Merengue del Primer Dedo

Our Spring Festival repertoire is:

  • March Triumphant
  • Where the River Shannon Flows
  • Jubilee Fanfare

In addition to all of this repertoire, we will work on Jupiter.  We will start this at our rehearsal next week.

Before our next rehearsal, please play through Die Meistersingers at least 4 times.  1st violins and cellos-please focus on the section between letter A and B.  This week we spent a good deal of time on bowings.  BOWINGS ARE NOT OPTIONAL!  There is a reason that our parts are marked with bowings.  Not only does it look amazing, but it sounds better when we are all playing in the same part of bow, with the same amount of bow.  Make sure that you are following the bowings! BOWINGS ARE NOT OPTIONAL!

As we are in the final rehearsals for the year, I would ask that all students come to every rehearsal with all the things that are needed to perform at your best.  There has been a lot of missing music, stands and rock stops at our rehearsals.  Please check to see that you have everything you need before you come to rehearsal.  Thank you for your help with this.

Question of the week: What is the name of one who makes or repairs instruments? Send your answers to mary@gtcys.org.  There might be a small treat for those of you that reply to this question!

I look forward to seeing you next week.  Work hard, play hard.
