Letter from Ms. Mary (3/10)

Hey Philharmonia East,

Fun rehearsal last night. Were any of you planning on seeing snow at the end of our rehearsal?!? We focused on using different amounts of bow speed and bow pressure. We were able to create some very contrasting sounds.  Thank you for your hard work on the details. Shout out to the 1st violins for playing such beautiful dynamics!

We are working towards our final two concerts of the year.  Our first one is at Johanna Shores on April 14th, and Spring Festival is on May 12th. We will have new seating next week. This will be for the Johanna Shores concert.

At our next rehearsal, we will focus on the March Triumphant, Where the River Shannon Flows, Die Meistersingers, and Lean on Me. Get ready for Storytime.  Be prepared for a 16th century version of America’s Got Talent/The Voice.

Before next Tuesday, please play through the following passages:

Lean on Me: measures 1-17

March Triumphant: measures 25 to the end. Remember this is in the key of F major.

Auditions for the next season are fast approaching.  Audition videos are due May 19th.  Every student needs to audition every year to participate in GTCYS.  We will talk just a little bit about what those components are at our rehearsal next week.

Practice strategies are key to making progress in anything we work on.  This is true for music, sports, or academics. Question of the week: Is there a favorite place that you like to practice your instrument? Email those responses to mary@gtcys.org.

Have a great week. I look forward to our rehearsal next week.

Work hard, play hard.
