Letter from Ms. Mary (2/3)

Hey Philharmonia East,

Nice work at our rehearsal this week!  There is much progress being made on all of our pieces.  Thank you for your work at home as well as bringing your A-game to our Tuesday night rehearsals.

Posture! This is fundamental to how we sound as an orchestra.  As you are playing your instrument this week, pay attention to how you are sitting/standing, as well as the position of your instrument and bow.  Do you want to play with a great sound? Start by checking your posture and positions.  Every time that we adjust our posture, we IMMEDIATELY have a much different sound.  Good posture=good playing.

We focused on chunking some of our more difficult passages this week.  I would like you to continue this at home as well.  Please play each of these passages (chunks) and play them a minimum of 4 times.  You are always welcome to play them more than 4 times:)

  1. Draw the Circle Wide: measures 27-36
  2. Draw the Circle Wide: measures 36-44
  3. Jubilee Fanfare: measures 103-the end

Question of the week: What is your favorite event or activity in February? Send those answers to mary@gtcys.org.  I look forward to hearing what those events/activities are!

Continue to share your music and kindness with those around you. I look forward to our rehearsal next Tuesday!

Work hard, play hard.
