Letter from Ms. Mary (12/1)
Hey Philharmonia West,
Last night was AWESOME! There were so many wonderful musical moments as we worked through our concert repertoire. Thanks to our Student Leadership Team for leading our group activity during our snack time. I hope that you are excited about our concert next Monday at the Minnesota Veterans Home. We are ready for this!
A recap of our rehearsal and some things to think about in your Philharmonia practice at home:
- Jubilee Fanfare: Great job on the dynamics. Remember to bring out your part when you have the quarter note melody.
- Winter Music: Review the road map! Articulations are important, play all of those staccato markings!
- Ukrainian Folk Songs: Articulations and accents!
- Tyro Tango: Enjoy this piece you have learned so well!
- Who Can Retell: Accidentals! Those added sharps and flats are not optional!
- Russian Dance: Small bows for the spiccato.
Two questions for this week:
- What is the hardest thing that you have ever done or learned? This can be something with your instrument, a school subject, a sporting activity, or any skill that was difficult.
- I would like several students to introduce our pieces at the concert. Are you interested in doing this? If so, please let me know by Friday.
Please send your answers to mary@gtcys.org.
As we are heading into cold weather, remember to take extra care of your instruments. The instruments do not like the cold weather. If you do not have a humidifier for your instrument, you can make one. Here is an attachment on how to make one.. Your instruments will really appreciate it!
Remember that our concert is next Monday. We will be at the Minnesota Veterans Home and not at the Edina Senior Center. Come with your holiday/seasonal accessories. Holiday hats, socks, and scarves are all welcome.
Thanks for a fantastic rehearsal. Thanks for practicing the Philharmonia mantra of “Steady is cool. Rushing is not.”
Work hard, play hard.
