Letter from Ms. Mary (11/3)
Hey Philharmonia West,
Thanks for your work last night. So much progress these past few weeks!
Last night, we were able to read through Russian Dance, as well as spend a few minutes on Winter Music. These are pieces that we will be performing at our December concert. We also practiced our spiccato bow stroke. Spiccato doesn’t need to use a lot of bow. In your practice at home, continue to include different articulations in your scales.
Next week is our final rehearsal before Fall Festival. We are performing Ukrainian Folk Songs and Tyro Tango. Steady is _________. Rushing is_________. Dotted rhythms, spiccato, spiccato and pizzicato articulations are all places where we tend to rush. Next week will be Metronome Monday, as we continue to work on staying steady throughout all of our pieces. We can do hard things!
For your practice this week, please take the time to play through all 3 movements of Winter Music. Do you know where the repeats are? Follow the musical map!
A reminder that concert dress this year is all black, black on bottom, black on top, black shoes and socks.
Question of the week: What is your first or favorite musical memory? Send those replies to mary@gtcys.org
Have a great week. Work hard, play hard.
