Letter from Ms. Mary (11/24)
Happy Thanksgiving Week, Philharmonia!
Thank you, Philharmonia! We have had a wonderful start to our year. You played so well at Fall Festival. You are learning new, hard skills on your instrument. You are meeting new friends. You are learning new music. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with you every Monday evening. Thank you for the effort and courage you show each week.
We have one more rehearsal before our concert at the Minnesota Veterans Home. We will be performing the following on that concert:
- Jubilee Fanfare
- Winter Music, movements 1 and 3
- Ukrainian Folk Songs
- Tyro Tango
- Who Can Retell
- Russian Dance
Last night we focused on the accidentals in Who Can Retell and the spiccato in Russian Dance. These are also the things that we will focus on at our rehearsal next week. These are the passages that we will focus on:
- Russian Dance, letter D to E
- Who Can Retell, measures 25-41
Please take a look at these passages before next Monday. I know that many of you may be traveling or gone in the next few days. Playing these passages even just a few times will make a difference.
Question of the week: What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition or food?
Have a wonderful week. Work hard, play hard.
Mary Sorlie
