Letter from Ms. Mary (11/17)
Dear Philharmonia West,
Wow! What a fantastic job at Fall Festival this past weekend. I heard so may comments about so many good things: great dynamics, clear articulations, playing in the same part of the bow and using full bows in Tyro Tango. Thank you for your work this year. I am so proud of the effort, courage and hard work you have put into our season so far. I hope that you had a wonderful time and could sense the festive atmosphere for the concert. Thank you also for your good job of listening to the other orchestras. Here is the link for Fall Festival II. Enjoy!
Our next concert is coming up quickly. We only have two more rehearsals and then we perform at the Minnesota Veterans Home on Monday, December 8. The repertoire that we will be performing for that concert is:
- Jubilee Fanfare
- Winter Music, movements 1 and 3
- Ukrainian Folk Songs
- Tyro Tango
- Who Can Retell
- Russian Dance (Trepak)
We will have another Storytime session next week, earning about the composer of Russian Dance, Peter Ilyich Tschaikovsky. Before our rehearsal next week, please look at the following sections in our holiday pieces:
- Russian Dance: rehearsal D-F. Upper strings are spiccato and cellos have the chromatic line. Play this slowly 7 times before our next rehearsal.
- Who Can Retell: measures 25-41. Watch out for the accidentals! Play this slowly 7 times before our next rehearsal.
Question for the week: What was your favorite part from our performance at Orchestra Hall this past weekend? Email your responses to mary@gtcys.org.
Can’t wait to see you next Monday!
Work hard, play hard.
