Letter from Ms. Mary (10/7)
Hey, Philharmonia East!
We had a good rehearsal last night, with lots of woodshedding in our repertoire, especially in Turbulence. We are also spending a good amount of time on scales. As we have discovered in our repertoire, scales are everywhere! We really need to know and understand the finger patterns of all of our scales. We have been focusing on E minor. Our work of the week is the starting note of a scale. Please send me an email at mary@gtcys.org if you remember what that word is. I’ll give you a hint: it does not start with the letter S.
Last night, we started our rehearsal by reading Hop, Skip and Jump. The sightreading level has already improved since we started, just five weeks ago! Way to go Philharmonia! Next week, we will play Hornpipe from Water Music, as we continue to work on our reading skills.
Before next Tuesday, continue to WOODSHED these passages in Turbulence: measures 18-24, 24-33, and 40-45. They are similar, so you need to pay attention to where those differences are. Try to incorporate playing the E minor scale into your daily practice.
Next week, we will work on Turbulence, as well as spend some more time on Accents. Storytime returns next week! Be prepared to listen and learn about music in a very different way during Philharmonia Storytime. It’s going to be awesome!
Have a great week. Work hard, play hard.
