Letter from Ms. Mary (10/20)

Dear Philharmonia West,

Thank you for your work this week.  We were able to dive deep in sectionals. The best part of sectionals is when we come together at the end of rehearsal and can hear so much improvement.

We have three more rehearsals before Fall Festival!  In the next few weeks, we will continue to work on Fall Festival repertoire, as well as to work on music for our December 8th concert.  Both of these concerts are going to come up very quickly.  Our Fall Festival repertoire is Ukrainian Folk Songs and Tyro Tango.

Next week, we will spend a good deal of time on Winter Music.  Rhythm will be the focus.  Please take some time this week to preview each of the movements.  There are repeats in all of the movements.  There is a DC in one of them.  Do you know what the road map is for each of these movements?

Question of the week: Where is your favorite place to practice? Email your response to: mary@gtcys.org.  We continue to work on practice strategies.  These can be used for any music that you are working on.  Finding a quiet, fun space to practice is a great place to start.

Challenge of the week: We have been drilling the first and last four measures of Tyro Tango.  Can you memorize these?

Shout out to Felix and Lukas for being rock stars in putting the chairs away.  We’ll have to get the final grade from Emma at rehearsal!

Have a great week.  Work hard, play hard.  But most importantly, Steady is Cool, Rushing is Not!
