Letter from Ms. Mary (1/26)

Hey Philharmonia West,

Thanks for your hard work at our rehearsal this week.  Thank you for bringing kindness and lots of effort to our rehearsal. We drilled very specific sections and made some nice progress.  I would ask that this week at home, you practice in a targeted manner as well.

What are three things that you remember about Tchaikovsky from our story time? (This is the march by Tchaikovsky….) Send those answers to mary@gtcys.org.  Bonus question: What are you looking forward to in the coming weeks?

Kudos to the cello section for your work and progress with C# extensions!  We focused on the C# and D half steps this week. Next week, we will focus on G# and A.

The pieces that we will be performing on the March 1st concert are:

  • Vivaldi Concerto
  • Bach Brandenburg
  • March by Tchaikovsky
  • Turbulence

Before our next rehearsal, please target these passages:
Brandenburg: measures 17-37
Tchaikovsky March: measures 39-47

A final reminder about pencils…Please make sure that you have everything that you need when you come to rehearsal.  Marking your parts is perhaps the most important part of our rehearsal.  Please check before you leave that you have everything.

Additionally: The deadline to register to be a GTCYS Ambassador is this Friday, January 30. If you are a member of your school band or orchestra program, you are eligible to participate. Questions? Email Dan Mollick at dan@gtcys.org.

Share your music with someone this week.  Work hard, play hard.
