Letter from Ms. Mary (1/13)

Hey Philharmonia East!

Thanks for a very productive rehearsal this week! We accomplished much in Hop, Skip and Jump, Jubilee Fanfare and March of the Meistersingers.  Thank you for working hard and staying focused while we drilled some of our tricky passages.  As we have been doing, we will continue to work on our scales, which are the backbone of our playing.

Our retreat is this Saturday.  I can’t wait! We will have a fantastic time planned.  We begin our activities at 8:30am, so plan on arriving at 8:15 so we can start right at 8:30.  Our day will include rehearsing, snacks, body percussion and rhythm sticks, and a combined rehearsal with members of ComMusication, who will be joining us on our February concert.

On Saturday, we will focus on March of the Meistersingers, Jubilee Fanfare, and the pieces we will be performing with ComMusication.  You will receive music for these pieces on Saturday.

Before our retreat, please take a look at the following measures in March of the Meistersingers:

  • Measures 1-12, focusing on the rhythm
  • Measures 13-17, focusing on the bowings (frog power)

Here are listening links for the pieces we will be focusing on:

Question of the week:
Do you prefer getting up early or staying up late? You can send your answers to mary@gtcys.org
P.S. No matter what your answer is, make sure that you come well rested to the retreat on Saturday!

Work hard, play hard.
