Letter from Mrs. Mary (11/4)
Hey Philharmonia East!
Next week is our final rehearsal before Fall Festival! We have made a ton of progress in these past 9 weeks. Thank you for your hard work and individual practice at home.
This week we focused on staying steady and listening for the silence. Steady is ____________. Rushing is_____________. Keeping a steady tempo is perhaps the most important thing that we can do as an ensemble! When you are playing at home this week, continue to listen to the silence before you start and the space and silence that is in between some of our articulations.
Our two Fall Festival pieces are Turbulence and Sword Dance. The other music that we have been working on is for our December concert. Before our rehearsal next week, please take a look at the middle section of Accents. Measures 37-55 are very different from the beginning and end of this piece. It is in a different key and has different melodies and rhythms. Play this several times before next Tuesday. Next week, we will spend most of our time on our Fall Festival pieces.
Question of the week: If you had to design a new musical instrument, what would you name it?
Have a great week. Work hard, play hard.
Mary Sorlie
