Letter from Mrs. Mary (12/2)
Hey Philharmonia East,
Super fun night at our rehearsal! So nice to have a combined treat night with Sinfonia East. Stay tuned for more combined events next semester.
Our concert is next Tuesday! So much growth, progress and wonderful music-making in our first semester. Thank you for your work, effort, and courage as we grow in our musical journey. We will be performing six pieces at our concert. These are the pieces we played at our rehearsal this week:
- Accents
- Chins and Pins
- Turbulence
- Sword Dance
- Who Can Retell
- Russian Dance
As you review these pieces this week, please focus on dynamics and articulations. Remember the places that are spiccato! Using tiny bows, let that bow bounce! This is especially true in Turbulence and Russian Dance. Thank you for really working on not rushing in our pieces. I think this is one of the biggest areas of improvement that has been made this semester. “I will not rush. Rushing is sad.”
You should have received a separate email with all of the details regarding our concert next week. Just a few reminders:
- The concert is at Johanna Shores in Arden Hills
- Please arrive at 6:00pm. We will have a rehearsal at 6:15 prior to the 7:00 concert.
- Concert dress is all black. Holiday accessories are encouraged.
- Remember your stand, instrument, music, and any accessories.
If you would like to introduce one of our pieces, please email me at mary@gtcys.org letting me know that you are interested in this.
I look forward to sharing our music with the residents of Johanna Shores. Have a great week.
Work hard, play hard.
