Letter from Mrs. Hebert (4/27)

Sinfonia West,

ONE WEEK TO GO!!

With only one rehearsal left to go, I need EVERYONE to practice on your GTCYS music for a minimum of 10-15 minutes per day. We have quite a few areas that need to be polished!

I have include our recordings from Monday night as well.

Print and use this as your practice guide:

  1. LISTEN to our recording (see attached) and then listen to the professional recordings Go West! And Capriccio with your music in hand . Note in your music the areas you need to work on (did we play heavier, slower, miss articulation, dynamics, or tempo changes?) MARK IT! Then you know what to work on!
  2. PRACTICE the areas you noted above. Each of these ” problem areas” should be practiced 2-3x a day! This is what it will take to fix and master these sections.
  3.  CHECK your tempos and play each piece straight through with the metronome (yes, you will need to stop and adjust the metronome a few times throughout each piece)
  4. RE-CHECK dynamics, articulation, bowings, etc.  Are you missing any? Are you playing them accurately? (Are “piano” dynamics actually piano?”) Practice areas that are out of tune.
  5. MAKE NOTE of anything you need to work on for the following day- You can bracket or circle areas that still need improvement. Start with these areas the following day!
  6. REPEAT! Work through each of these steps every day until our concert.
  7. BONUS: Listen to Jupiter so you know what to expect and play WITH this recording! I also challenge you to play it somewhere new – outside, in a kitchen or living room, on the deck or driveway. Get creative! Tell me where you played it at our next rehearsal.
  • Parents: If you missed the audition information meeting at the end of rehearsal last week, you can view the information I shared here.
