Letter from Mrs. Hebert (10/20)
Sinfonia West,
Monday night was NOT our best rehearsal. There were a lot of students playing when asked to be quite and a lot of side conversations when I was giving feedback and directions.
I know we can do better! Thank you for those of you who continued to work hard and be respectful last night.
We only have THREE rehearsals left before Fall Festival !
Here are your practice goals this week:
- Practice each of your pieces with the metronome. This INCLUDES the beginning of Cumberland Cross!
- Double check bowings and articulation: Are you actually following every bowings/slurs and really paying attention to your staccatos and accents?
- Work on phrasing and dynamics! You don’t want your music to sound monotone! Work on playing “piano” softer this week.
- Play through each piece and then stop and reflect on what you need to work on.
- Fine-tune what you need to work on!
- Have each piece PERFORMANCE READY by next week so we have two rehearsals to make music together as an orchestra.
Trumpets- please come prepared with each of your pieces learned. By now, every piece should be comfortable for you. If a note is too high, you can pencil in the same note and octave lower.
Finally, please dive into the holiday pieces this week after you have practiced our two Fall Festival pieces. We only have three rehearsals after Fall Festival before our next concert!
