Letter from Mr. Larson (9/23)

Sinfonia East Students and Families,

We have had a busy week! Thank you for the great fall retreat as well as working hard at Tuesday’s rehearsal.

What we worked on at the rehearsal:

Bizet – We worked slowly through the melody at 20 to make sure the chromatic sections were the correct notes and in tune. There was a lot of improvement! We also worked on dynamic contrast.

Gordon – Between A-B played half notes louder and worked on entrances after 8th rests

Holesovsky – Played the entire piece.

What to work on with your GTCYS 10 this week

Listen to each piece at least two times this week and look at the following ideas.

  • Bizet
    • Look for accidentals (flats, naturals, and sharps) and practice slowly
    • Practice dynamic changes
  • Gordon
    • Strings – play eighth notes in the lower half of the bow
    • Everyone – entrances after eighth rests need to start with energy. Feel the down beat and bounce of it to have a strong entrance
  • Holesovsky
    • Listen to the piece!!!!!
    • The link is below!!!!
