Letter from Mr. Larson (3/10)
Sinfonia East Students and Families,
Thank you for a great rehearsal on Tuesday! We made a lot of progress on It’s About Time and since we made it all the way through the piece we are ready to refine by paying attention to bowings and articulations. I say articulations, but I could also say rhythm. Sometimes composers use staccatos, but other times they use rests to indicate the space (eighth rests in our case) that should be between notes.
As a reminder GTCYS’s Camerata Vivace director, Zane Kaiser, will be my sub next week. I will be traveling with my school district’s high school orchestra as they tour Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. I hope to have many good stories of performances (and food) when I see you in two weeks!
For your GTCYS 10 this week:
- It’s About Time
- Practice each of the measure groupings separately with a focus on bowings, articulations, and dynamics

- Go beyond notes. Find the articulations, accents, and dynamics that will make this music come alive.
