Letter from Mr. Larson (10/28)
Sinfonia East Students and Families,
This week’s rehearsal went really well. Every week gets us one week closer to the Fall Festival. There are two more rehearsals to “lock in” all of the details. We now have two percussion mentors volunteering their Tuesday nights for the rest of the semester, one from Concert Orchestra and one from Symphony. They are also going to perform with Sinfonia East, which means we have a great percussion section!
I also wanted to update everyone that with the completion of the construction at House of Hope, the entrance nearest our rehearsal space is now able to be used. I didn’t know it was available until after rehearsal tonight. So next week you can save a few steps!
What to work on with your GTCYS 10 this week
Bizet – Habanera (Fall Festival)
- Listen to the piece at least 3 times on different days. Listen for the contrast in dynamics as well articulation
- Practice getting that contrast on your part
Gordon – Momentum (Fall Festival)
- In rehearsal we slowed the tempo down to about quarter note = 130. It was much cleaner. Practice at quarter note = 130 so you are used to the tempo
Holesovsky –Bratislava (Possible Community Concert)
- M – end was much improved. Listen to the piece, specifically at the transitions.
- Practice each section and transitions
Smith and Bernard – Winter Wonderland (Community Concert)
- We did not play last week, but we will play it next week
Arr. Ployhar – Ukrainian Bell Carol (Community Concert)
- We did not play last week, but we will play it next week
