Letter from Mr. Larson (2/17)

Sinfonia East Students and Families,

Many thanks to the students and parents who helped clean up last night! It was nice to see so many people pitch in to put away percussion instruments as well as getting chairs stacked.

Make sure to notice the concert attire announcement. We will not be performing in all black, but will be wearing black on the bottom and a solid colored top (color choice is up to you).

Feb. 28 concert program is:

Glorioso

Bratislava

Havana

You are ready to have a nice performance that highlights work we have done on dynamics, articulations, rhythms, and balance. I know everyone is busy, but to be ready to have a great performance you need to make sure to get in your GTCYS 10. If you only have 10 minutes per day, focus on one piece for all 10 minutes. If you have more time, you can mix it up a little bit.

For your GTCYS 10 this week:

  • Havana
    • We are adding a repeat making us play 38 – 45 2x
      • Mark this in your part
    • Rhythms – make it crisp
    • Listen to the listening link and think about when your part is the most important (melody) or is more in the background (harmony). We want the audience to be hear the melody clearly
  • Bratislava
    • Dynamics make music more interesting especially when we have a range. Notice the dynamics in your part this week and exaggerate them.
  • Glorioso
    • Practice with a metronome at quarter note = 150
    • Practice with a metronome at half note = 75
    • Find accents – and them play them

Listening Links
Beethoven arr. Meyer – Finale
Holesovsky – Bratislava
arr. Lopez – Havana
arr. Story – It’s About Time
Williams arr. Story – Highlights from Harry Potter

Thank you for a great rehearsal, it was great to see everyone!
