Letter from Maestro (9/29)
What a weekend! We made incredible progress in these past few days. Thank you for your focus and tenacity during the retreat, and last night at Southview Middle School. I am pleased with our progress so far, and hope that you are as well.
Clearly, many challenges remain, and there is much to learn for all of us. I appreciate your positive energy and comments to me about the repertoire choices — these are all amazing and diverse pieces, and require VERY mature musicianship — and you are delivering!
So, please do not rest on your laurels (ask your parents about laurels if you don’t know this old expression) and keep up the great work. We are coming to the time in our collective journey where individual practice is the only way we will reach our full potential. We have slogged through some things that clearly cannot be prepared only on Monday nights.
I am very inspired by your work and by the potential for this group — I trust you are as well.
See you at Orchestra Hall next Monday!
PLEASE use your GTCYS 10 for careful SLOW practicing…
Also — please add Strauss Overture to Die Fledermaus to your listening list….listen to the Carlos Kleiber/Vienna Philharmonic recording…
Have a great week — MRS
