Letter from Maestro Smith (4/20)
Thanks for an amazing couple of days together — your concert on Sunday was on a very high level, and Monday night’s Mahler was equally impressive!
Congratulations and thank you to all — especially the Cello Section, Luke Soneral, and the Abels soloists — wow!
And to the entire orchestra — your playing on Sunday was very sensitive and musical!
AND — as I mentioned on Monday — I have high hopes and certitude that we can do a great job with Mahler 3 next year. Look what we accomplished in one rehearsal on the first movement — bravi tutti!
One VERY important schedule tweak — our rehearsal on Monday May 4 will begin 30 minutes early — at 6:15. Strings will be released early (at 7:40) and winds brass and percussion will have sectionals until the usual 9:15.
Please mark this change in your calendars. Thanks again for your dedication and focus — MRS
