Letter from Maestro Smith (10/6)
Thank you for your hard work last night! It was one of those tough but absolutely necessary rehearsals. As I elucidated a number of times, we are at the stage of repertoire development where it is on EVERY individual member of Symphony to spend time preparing their part. As mentioned, we come together for our very special Monday nights to put things together and to learn everyone else’s part, and not to figure out notes, rhythms and fingerings in our own part.
SO, I greatly look forward to next Monday. We will begin with THE CHILD JULIET, so those not involved in that movement may arrive 30 mins later at 7:15.
Strings, please look over Meistersinger very carefully — it is simply tough and complicated, but also rewarding and expressive music.
You are all doing a great job on this tough repertoire — we now need our contnued colletive focus and mental fortitude to expand our range of expression.
Have a great week, and thanks again for your wonderful work last night.
