Letter from Maestro Smith (3/23)

What an amazing piece!  Thank you all for your great sight reading of some of Mahler Symphony #3.  Important — we will revisit this music on Monday night April 6.  We will do much more of the first movement and then read through the sixth movement again, now that it is a little more familiar.  Please go further into the first movement if you have time to prepare for April 6.  We might get through the whole movement….

AND NOW:  VERY IMPORTANT REHEARSAL INFORMATION FOR NEXT WEEK, March 30.  We need to polish the repertoire for our April 19 concert, and must spend some time on some of the smaller movements of Romeo and Juliet.

We will rehearse:  The Child Juliet, Friar Laurence, Dance and Romeo at Juliet’s Before Parting.  Also Abels Delights and Dances.

If you do not play on any of the above music, then you are released from next Monday’s rehearsal.  This also means that trumpets and bass trombone will be finished finished at break.  And there are some trumpets and trombones that do not play on any of these movements.  I will rely on you to carefully look at this memo to determine if we are rehearsing repertoire that you play.

And all non-strings will finish at least 30 minutes early, as the strings need to rehearse Delights and Dances.

Things have been a bit crazy with Spring Break absences, so now that these are ending, we need to to refocus on a successful concert on April 19.

Please look carefully at the schedule and please use your time to look over the Mahler prior to April 6.

Thanks for your dedication to your orchestra — see you Monday — MRS
